Benazepril Short Description

Benazepril is in a group of drugs called ACE inhibitors. ACE stands for angiotensin converting enzyme. You may need emergency treatment. Lotensin can be taken with or without food. This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. It is effective when used alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics. If you have poor kidney function, there is a slight chance that Lotensin may reduce your supply of infection-fighting white blood cells. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; chills; fainting; fever; hoarseness; irregular or slow heartbeat; lightheadedness; sore throat; unusual stomach pain; yellowing of the skin or eyes. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; severe stomach pain; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested. Follow the directions on the prescription label. BENAZEPRIL (Lotensin®) is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering agent) known as an ACE inhibitor. For people with reduced kidney function, the dosages should be individualized according to the amount of reduced function. Benazepril can be used alone in treating high blood pressure.
