Altace (Ramipril) Short Description

Ramipril belongs in a class of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors which are used for treating high blood pressure and heart failure and for preventing kidney failure due to high blood pressure and diabetes. Other ACE inhibitors are enalapril (Vasotec), quinapril (Accupril), captopril (Capoten), fosinopril (Monopril), benazepril (Lotensin), lisinopril (Zestril, Prinivil), moexipril (Univasc) and trandolapril (Mavik). In the kidneys, the enlargement of the arteries also reduces blood pressure and increases blood flow. It can further lower your blood pressure and may increase some of the side effects of ramipril. After blood pressure is under control, the dosage will range from 2.5 to 20 milligrams a day in a single dose or divided into 2 equal doses. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. ACE inhibitors, including ramipril, are harmful to the fetus and, therefore, should not be used during pregnancy.
